Diplomatic incident between France & the US that lasted from 1797-1798. Pres. John Adams sent 3 US delegates to Paris to restore peace between the nations. When the delegates arrived France's foreign minister refused to meet and demanded a lbribe & loan from the US. This upset the US and led to the Quasi-War.

Aka the Treaty of Mortefontaine; it was a treaty between the US and France that ended the Quasi-War. Both countries wanted the issues between them over so the signing of the treaty went smoothly.

France sold the Louisiana territory to the United States in 1803 when Thomas Jefferson was President. The US paid less than 3 cents an acre for the territory. The purchase added 828,000 square miles of land to the US.

To prevent conflict between the US & France and Great Britain, the latter were at war with each other; the Embargo Act was passed. It prevented trade between the US & France and the US & Great Britain. It hurt the US economy and ended up stopping trade with other nations.

A War between the US and Great Britain, it started on June 18, 1812 and ended on February 17, 1815. The war between the two countries was partially caused by Great Britain's acts of impressment, where they would take American sailors off of ships and force them to join the Royal Navy.

A treaty signed by representatives from Great Britain and America that ended the War of 1812. It was signed in Ghent, Belgium. The treaty said that all territories conquered during the war would return to their original owners and commissions were planned to help settle the boundary of the US and Canada.

James Monroe delivered his annual message to Congress and announced that ‘The American continents … are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European powers.’ This means the Americas were no longer available for colonization.
