    The First Opium War started when China told Great Britain to stop selling Opium and GB was angered by that, so they declared war on China. Great Britain won and forced China to agree to humiliating treaties.

    The Sino-Japanese War wsa started for control of the Koreas. Japan won.
  • Boxer Rebellion

    Boxer Rebellion
    The Boxer Rebellion was an attempted uprising by Chinese citizens to remove foreign powers in China. This was all enabled by the empress who was telling each group what they wanted to hear. (There is no exact date for the beginning of the rebellion.)
  • Open Door Policy

    The US creates a policy stating that all outside countries get equal trading oppurtunities in China. (No exact date known.)
  • Communist Party Formed

    A group of men (incuding Mao Zedong) saw the revolution in Russia and wanted to create something similar.

    Mao kicks the Nationalists out andcreates the People's Republic of China.

    Mao attempts to create giant farms which fail and create famines. (Exact date not found.)

    Relations between the USSR and China worsen until they split up.
  • Cultural Revolution

    Mao uses young people to regain power in China. He has them beat and shame higher class people and follow his little red book.
  • President Nixon visits China

    President Nixon visits China
    Nixon visits Mao as a sign of friendship between the countries. The US really wanted to get Chinese goods, though.
  • Mao dies with Cultural Revolution

    Mao dies from heart attack and the Cultural Revolution ends.
