Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is signed
Santa Anna signs the treaty selling more than half of Mexican territory to the US for $15 million dollars. Santa Anna was then forced into exile by the government established after the war. -
A new Constitution
It established a Federal Republic, just as the Liberals wanted. -
Benito Juarez becomes president
Benito Juárez, a Zapotec Indian from Oaxaca, became president. -
War of Reform
A 3-year civil war called the War of Reform broke out between the Liberals and the Conservatives. -
Frane Invades Mexico
Mexico owes money to the French, so they come to claim it.
