  • Founding of YouTube

    YouTube was founded in 2005, on Febuary 14th by, Chad Hurley, Jawed Karim, and Steve Chen.
  • First Video

    The first video posted onto the website was named, "Me at the zoo." Uploaded by Jawed.
  • Bought

    A year after the website went live it was bought by its current parent company, Google.
  • YouTube Launches Partner Program

    YouTube launched it's Partner Priogram which allowed its users to monitize their content to earn from it
  • Mobile Web

    Mobile users were able to use the site.
  • YouTube Live

    In April of 2011 YouTube rolled out “YouTube Live” which allowed select users to live stream, eventually it was made so that just about anyone with an account could.
  • Mobile App

    In February YouTube created a better version of its app for the IOS after it had been removed from the app store because of an expired license.
  • Susan Wojcicki

    In Febuary of 2014, Susan Wojcicki was appointed the CEO position of YouTube.
  • YouTube Premium

    YouTube launched their subscription service "YouTube Premium" which was originally named "Music Key" and "YouTube Red". Originally a music service to eventually being able to watch or listen to anyting on the app ad-free.
  • Video Restrictions

    Due to COPPA, YouTube had made its users start to start marking wether or not their videos were made for kids.
  • Play Music & YouTube Music

    Google shut down Play Music and had YouTube Music replace, along with Google podcasts.
  • Shorts

    YouTube rolled out its "YouTube Shorts" feature onto the website.
  • Shorts Introduction

    YouTube released YouTube Shorts worldwide after its introduction in Inida on September 15th, 2020.
  • Removal Of The Dislike Button

    YouTube made it so that viewers were unable to see the amount of dislikes a video had, apparently to protect the creator from online harassment despite the fact the creator themselves could see it themselves in the video's analytics.
  • Susan Wojcicki & Neal Mohan

    Susan Wojcicki stepped down from her position as YouTubes CEO, then Neal Mohan had been appointed to the position.
