The Roosevelt Ship left New York, heading to Cape Sheridan.
-
At Oyster Bay, New York, President Theodore Roosevelt came on board to wish Peary luck on his trip to the North Pole.
-
The Roosevelt made it to Cape Sheridan, and the men learned how to survive in the Artic, by learning how to drive the dogs, and building the igloos.
-
The men were ready to begin their journey to the North Pole. They brought enough food and dogs for 50 days, also each of them got to bring 1 belonging with them.
-
That morning Bartlett and Borup started on their part of the journey.
-
At 6:30 the that morning Henson waited for Peary to tell them "Go ahead," and they were off on the trail.
-
Matt and Peary had regrouped with Bartlett at the Big Lead.
-
Still waiting to cross the lead with the others,Matt saw the sun peer out again.
-
That day, when the men were working on their sledges, the Big Lead was finally safe to cross. The ice was thick enough to bring all of their suppies across.
-
It wasd Ross Marvin's turn to turn back, he gave Henson, Peary, and Badrtlett wishes of luck to continue. There were three men that had already turned back, that left only thee more and the four Eskimos.
-
Peary and Henson regroup again with Bartlett and the Eskioms. In the night while sleeping the ice had cracked with Bartlett and his dog team on it, they were floating on a loose chunk of ice in the freezing cold water down the lead. The dogs had leapd from the ice chunk to land safley.
-
It was Bartlett's turn to go back, he wanted Henson and Peary to reach the North Pole. After Bartlett left, they rested up and firnished their sledges.
-
At midnight, Peary and Henson started walking on foot, they marched for 10 hours then rode on their sledges.
-
Matt drove across a lead with thin ice, one of the runners broke through and Matt fell in. One of the Eskimos (Ootah) pulled on Matt's hood, and pulled him out.
-
Matt could tell miles accuratley, he thought that they had marched 100 miles. That left 35 miles to go.
-
Henson and Peary, with the Eskimos had mad it to the North Pole! They had reached there dream in life.
-
Henson and Peary were back at Cape Columbia. They could see the Roosevelt and the people there to greet them.
