Childhood
Marilyn had a difficult childhood, her father was nowhere to be found and her mother didn't have the money to take care of the children, so they were sent to foster homes. -

Norma Jeane Mortenson was bron on 26 th june 1933. -
Moved from place to place.
Marilyn was then moved back and forth of foster homes. Later she was shipped from relatives houses and ended up with the Goddards. -
Married at 16
Marriage at 16. Her first husband was 21-year-old James Dougherty, next door neighbor. -
Modeling carrier begins
Pretty girl started her modeling career. Marilyn worked for one of the biggest modeling agencies in Los Angeles at the time, Blue book Modeling Agency. -
Divorce.
James and Marilyn got divorced. The same year with varying reports suggesting the reason for their divorce was James dislike of Marilyn's career. -
Signed with Twentieth- Century Fox
Ben Lyon, a 20th Century Fox executive, was impressed by her screen test. Lyon did not like her original name and suggested that she take the name Marilyn Monroe. -
First movie role
Monroe spent her first six months at Fox learning acting, singing, and dancing, and observing the film-making process. First movie role was an uncredited role as a telephone operator in The Shocking Miss Pilgrim in 1947. She won a brief role that same year in Dangerous Years. -
Returned to modeling.
Despite her enthusiasm, her teachers thought her too shy and insecure to have a future in acting, and Fox did not renew her contract in August 1947. She returned to modeling while also doing occasional odd jobs at film studios, such as working as a dancing "pacer" behind the scenes to keep the leads on point at musical sets. -
The Asphalt Jungle
After her performance in The Asphalt Jungle, Marilyn Monroe got great reviews. Her talent agent, Johnny Hyde convinced Twentieth Century Fox to sign her into a 7 year contract. -
Appearing on the magazine.
LIFE magazine, April 7, 1952. Marilyn Monroe's debut on the magazine's cover, photographed by Philippe Halsman. Stories up her childhood and upbringing were published in the magazine and it brought a sympathetic outlook of her to all of her fans. -
First Monroe's major role
Perhaps Miss Monroe is not the perfect actress at this point. But neither the director nor the gentlemen who handled the cameras appeared to be concerned with this. They have caught every possible curve both in the intimacy of the boudoir and in equally revealing tight dresses. As has been noted, Niagara may not be the place to visit under these circumstances but the falls and Miss Monroe are something to see. -
2nd Marriage
Marilyn Monroe got married to Joe DiMaggio in San Fransisco on January 14,1954. They traveled to Japan on a business trip and also combined it as their honeymoon as well. They actually met in 1952 on a blind date. -
DiMaggio and Monroe divorce.
In October 1954, after returning back to Los Angeles after filming in New York City, Monroe filed for divorce from DiMaggio citing reasons of “mental cruelty,” according to the file. The two were only married for nine months. -
3rd Marriage
Her third marriage to Arthur MillerWhile in her thirties, Marilyn Monroe married for the third and final time, this time to playwright Arthur Miller on June 29, 1956 in South Salem, New York. -
Marilyn won the Golden Globe Award
Monore won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress- Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her performance in "Some Like it Hot". -
Marilyn's illnesses
She suffered from dyslexia and from a stutter more severe than anyone has realized. She was plagued throughout her life by horrible dreams that contributed to her constant insomnia. She was bipolar and often disassociated from reality. She endured terrible pain. She was seeing many doctors to give her medication. Greenson believed she was at the point of addiction -
The Misfits
Her last completed film was the drama The Misfits (1961). Monroe's troubled private life received much attention. She struggled with addiction and mood disorders. -
Happy Birthday Mr. President!
Monroe was asked to attend John F. Kennedy's birthday where she peformed Happy Birthday along with a specially written verse based on Bob Hope's "Thanks for the Memory". -
Marilyn Monroe's Death
Monroe was fired from the film Something's Got to Give because of her frequent absences. Although she was later rehired, work never resumed. After several months as a virtual recluse, Monroe died from an overdose of sleeping pills in her Los Angeles home. Her death was ruled a “probable suicide.”
