    Marcos elected President
    Marcos, seen as a new light to the Filipino people, was elected president for his first term. He was supported by the US, as long as he restrained from bringing communism in the Philippines.

    Marcos re-election
    Marcos is the first ever President of the Philippines to be elected for two terms, however many accused Marcos of cheating to win in the election process. The majority of the citizens still believed Marcos would do no harm to the country, however students and Muslims were the main protests against the President at the time.

    A conflict was set by Students against filipino soldiers having to fight a battle in Vietnam that did not involve the Philippines. Protests argued that the US was just using Marcos as a puppet to them.
  • Battle of Mendolia

    Battle of Mendolia
    Students against the new President spoke out in riot using a fire truck heading towards Malacañang Palace. Soon after, security stopped the fire truck, and a gunshot was fired, silence spread, and 4 students were killed.

    In order to make Marcos' term longer, a parliamentary constitution is required, which is why Marcos held a constitutional convention. Marcos lost the vote, even when he persuaded others to vote for him with money.
  • Bombing in Plaza Miranda

    9 people were killed, and 95 people were injured from a bomb in Plaza Miranda. The bomb occurred at a liberal party rally, and was held by Maira Sinson, the founder of the Communist party. Marcos was an alleged suspect for the bombing, however after it was revealed that he was not behind the bombing, he used this example in order to make new laws in the future.

    Marcos has decided to impose Martial Law. Although Martial law started two days earlier, the filipinos were only told that they were under martial law on the 21st of September due to the Marcos' obsession of the number 7 (21 is a factor of 7). Many claim that Marcos declared Martial Law in order to extend his term as president, However Imelda Marcos, the former president's wife, states that Martial Law was what Marcos wanted to help Filipino people.

    The night Martial Law was announced, Senators Ninoy Aquino and Jose Diokno, the leading oppositions to Marcos, were arrested.

    In order to prove to the US that the Philippines was a democracy, Citizens of the Philippines were asked to raise their hands for free rice. A picture was taken, and soon after the picture was said to be a picture of all the filipinos in favor for Marcos with his wish for a parliamentary government.

    LABAN's english definition is "to fight", which is exactly what the LABAN party wanted to do against Marcos. The LABAN Party, who's leader was Ninoy Aquino, was the party with People Party Leaders running against Marcos in elections.

    Noise was not a common protest type, so the noise barrage was new to the Philippines. Even though the filipino people knew that Marcos would cheat his way into winning, people supporting the LABAN party came together and created noise to show that LABAN is what the people want.

    Aquino heart attack/ sent to US
    Aquino was sent to the Texas, US for a triple heart bypass after having a heart attack. The reason why Aquino wanted to have his surgery in the US is because he feared that Marcos would try to poison him in the hospital. His request was approved, with one condition- Aquino was not allowed to be politically active.
  • Marcos elections (1981) boycotted by opposition

    Once again, to show the US that the Philippines was a Democracy, Marcos held an election. The opposition boycotted the election in order to justify that Marcos would not win if he had an opposition, thus making the election process fast.

    Ninoy Aquino returned to the Philippines after moving from country to country to make his trip to the Philippines less suspicious. However, Aquino was assasinated just a few seconds after emerging from the Plane, Today, the airport where he was killed is called NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) in memory of Aquino.

    Confetti Revolution

    Protests strongly against Ninoy Aquino's death rose, and people used yellow paper, to act as confetti in honor of Aquino (Yellow was Aquino's symbolic color). This act was one of the biggest threats to Marcos, as it was clear that the filipino people did not want Marcos as President. Furthermore, Cory Aquino (The wife of Ninoy Aquino) President, and the people were satisfied. The confetti revolution then came to an end.
  • Marcos calls for snap elections

    Marcos calls for snap elections
    Triggered by an interview, Marcos held a snap election to prove that he still had the Philippines best interest at heart. Marcos ran against Cory Aquino, from the LABAN Party. However, like always, the elections were rigged as some people couldn't find their names of the voting list to vote, so the Marcos Party won.

    EDSA Uprising

    Fidel Ramos and Juan Ponce Enrile barricaded towards Camp Crame, and Marcos declared that Ramos and Enrile were the targets for his military. However, public figures such as Cardinal Sin defended Enrile and Ramos using Radio Veritas. Around the same time, over 2 million people showed up to hear Cory Aquino talk about Civil Obedience following her loss.
  • Marcos Family Flees From Philippines

    The Marcos Family feels intimidated to move out of the Malacanang palace and to Hawaii with help from the US.
