The population increased as people were more determined to stay at home with their children so they can get paid for staying home. Most people ended up leaving the country-side to go and create the 'next big thing' in the city.

    2 officers were camping at Stringybark creek when Ned Kelly and his gang turned up. He told both of them to surrender, Officer McIntyre complied in an instant. The other officer, Lonigan, didn't and decided to shoot at Ned. Ned fired back and killed the officer. They were tied up and had to wait for their other officers to arrive back. As they did, McIntyre told them to surrender but they didn't listen, and one of the returning officers, Scanlan, shot at the gang, and was shot in return.
