The first European to sight the bay was Abel Tasman, who sought to anchor his vessel Heemskerck there. Instead, Heemskerck was driven back offshore by a storm, in token of which Tasman named the place Storm Bay. The arrival of British settlers and agricultural livestock throughout areas of Tasmania brought on The Black War. The Aboriginal violence was described as a resistance movement.

The early Industrial Revolution caused the population to decrease. This is because of the lack of sanitation, sewage, and knowledge about diseases and prevention. The industrial revolution did bring much more capable machinery, such as the steam engine and also an increase in medical knowledge and research. The rising middle class meant more people could afford food and basic medicines because they were employed in jobs associated with the revolution.

Napoleon was the greatest conqueror ever seen, Emperor of the first French empire. After twenty three years of near continuous warfare, it came to and end. The end of the Napoleonic Wars prompted a disengagement from European affairs by the United States. Caused by the Napoleonic wars, Britain was home to scores of distressed sailors who were disabled, unemployed and without financial support.

There was a shootout between the Kelly gang and four Police officers. Bushranger Ned Kelly was executed for his crimes in 1880. Four policemen had ridden out with tents and supplies to search for the Kelly Gang. Ned and his brother surprised two of the police at their camp. Scanlan fired a shot and was shot in return. These events occurred by Ned as acts of self defence. People believe Ned shouldn't be remembered the way he is and Kennedy believes he should be approved for doing nothing.

The Boxer Rebellion was against foreigners that occurred in China. It begun by peasants but eventually supported by the government. A secret society known as the Boxers started a violent campaign to drive all foreigners from China. Several countries sent troops to halt the attacks. The long term consequences of the Boxer Rebellion were the devastation of the Chinese economy. These consequences of the Boxer Rebellion made China vulnerable to continued foreign dominance and control.

The Battle of Beersheba was the first part of the wider third battle of Gaza. The British had already launched two unsuccessful attacks on the Turkish position at Gaza, and since then the Turkish defences had been greatly strengthened. The final phase of the battle was the famous mounted charge of the 4th Light Horse Brigade. At dusk, members of the brigade stormed through the Turkish defences and seized the strategic town of Beersheba.
