Makeup first started in 4000 BCE in Egypt. It served as a marker of wealth to appeal to the Gods. They used some resources like iron, lead, and copper for eye shadow and color to their face. -
In the 1500's Queen Elizabeth got ill and had scars on her skin form smallpox. To cover these scars, she used face paint as makeup, so it became normal. Aside from Queen Elizabeth's invention, women used eggs and other white products to hide wrinkles . and this had a huge impact on the industry. -
In the 1600s, facial powder was created and started to be used. Although the facial powder had deadly arsenic in it, women and men used it all over their face. Makeup became more bold in the 1980s. They wanted to ad "pop" to their look. With the invention of blush, they wanted a hollow look for their cheeks. They also used neon eye shadows, blue eye shadows, just very bright or very dark and bold colors. The use and application of eyeliner was very heavy to make their eye look "pop". -
During the 2000s, many people saw celebrities wearing certain makeup along with makeup trends. Makeup was worn to match jewelry and outfits as well. Lips were very defined on models, which inspired so many other people to define their lips. Lastly, adding glitter and shimmer to the makeup look and lips was a must to show off certain lipsticks. One big impact this year was not only were women wearing makeup, men were wearing makeup as well and a lot of nostalgia was created. -
Around 2010 woman saw multiple makeup trends. If celebrities had their brows shaped will big, they wanted real big brows too. Another thing is everyone wanted to look skinner or have a better shape, so they started using contour and applying it heavily to their cheek bones. They also used lip liner to make their lips look bigger. This redefined woman faces and makes their appearance much more appealing and fresh. -
In 2015, people wanted more of a matte look for their makeup. Having a matte finishing look hides any pores, breakouts, and texture. Having a matte finish also allows the makeup to stay on for a longer period of time. This impacted the makeup industry because people could now hide their insecurities and make themselves appear to look better than they think. It also impacts the makeup industry because they use those formulas and create healthier products for certain skin types and more. -

This is where all kinds of makeup products were being promoted because everyone was finding a great boost of confidence for themselves. Their self-esteem increased greatly as well and stayed true to themselves. -
In 2023 people want to look more natural to fit in with society. Along with wanting to look natural, makeup is used for plays, movies, acting plays, almost any reason. Makeup is used to embrace a character and their characteristics. This impacts and improves the industry because makeup can be used for millions of reasons and allows self-expression instead of wanting to be someone else or look like someone else. This also allows people to have more confidence in themselves.
