    The Russian Revolution
    The Russian Revolution was a mass political and social unrest. The people were working in terrible conditions, getting paid very little, and the government wasnt fair or just. The people wanted change and so they protested a lot and they fought hard and long for their rights.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Bloody Sunday was when Russia was losing a war against Japan and overall nothing was going well for Russia. The economic system was messed up, the people were starving, and there was no good government. On January 22, 1905 a group of workers marched to St. Petersburg to make their demands. Many were killed in this protest, but this caused their to be change and reform because there was so much protest against Tsar Nicholas II.
  • Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    This is what started World War I. There was already a lot of tension growing, but this was what triggered it to actually happen. The Black Hand was a terrorist group who gathered together and planned the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. It took two attempts to kill him, but in the end, the Black Hand was able to shoot him to his death. A man named Gavrilo Princip was the one who killed him. This was the breaking point, and soon after this war broke out.
  • Austria-Hungary declares war (start of WWI)

    Austria-Hungary declares war (start of WWI)
    Exactly one month after the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Austria-Hungary was getting prepared to invade and attack Serbia, so they got their army together and ready to fight. This war invloved so many countries besides just Austria-Hungary and Serbia. It was a world wide war and invloved countries from all around the world like the United States.
  • The Western Front

    The Western Front
    The Western Front was when Germany began fighting on two fronts. They invaded France through Belgium which was a neutral country in the west, and they invaded Russia in the east. German troops crossed the border into Belgium and this was the first battle of the war. The Germans used very powerful weapons that were deadly and killed so many civilians and a Belgian priest.
  • The Battle of Mons

    The Battle of Mons
    The Battle of Mons was the last four “Battles of the Frontiers.” German soldiers opened fire on the British at Mons and they attacked Britain’s small army. There were way more German troops than there were British. Machine guns were used and it caused many deaths. The British had to recreate because they knew that they were going to lose and so they needed to protect the troops they had and not lose a battle worse than they had to.
  • The Eastern Front

    The Eastern Front
    On the Eastern Front, the Russian forces invaded the German-held regions of Poland and East Prussia. They were stopped by German and Austrian forces at the Battle of Tannenberg. Russia had forced Germany to move towards the East and the Germans were losing the battle at this point in time
  • First Battle of the Marne

    First Battle of the Marne
    The First Battle of the Marne was where the French and British forces confronted the German army, which had made it’s way pretty far into France. They had a successful counterattack which drove the Germans back north. This fight ended Germany’s plans for a victory in France. They used trench warfare and suffered many casualties.
  • America Enters the War

    The United States was able to remain out of the war until 1917. There was a lot of submarine and ship aggression coming from the Germans, against neutral ships of the United States. On some of the U.S. ships, there were passengers and they were completely innocent. Germany sunk many of the U.S. ships so Woodrow Wilson went to Congress and called for a declaration of war against Germany
  • Russian Civil War

    Russian Civil War
    The Russian Civil War broke out. The Red Army fought for Lenin, while the White Army didn’t like Lenin’s communist ways and so they fought each other to see who won. Lenin’s army was victorious which helped to establish the Soviet Union and the war was able to come to an end in 1923
  • Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
    The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was a peace treaty signed by the Russians and the Central Powers. Russia recognized the independence of Ukraine, Georgia, and Finland. They gave up Poland and more countries were free. This took months of negotiations, but finally they resulted in this treaty and were able to figure some things out.
  • The League of Nations

    The League of Nations
    After World War I, a group of people gathered together in order to keep peace. This war was so awful and caused so many deaths, they wanted to make sure nothing like this ever happened again on such a huge scale. They were in charge of figuring things out and proventing conflict. This group was called the League of Nations and they would figure everything out peacefully so that war didn’t happen

    The Great Depression was when the economy began to shrink and there was a severe worldwide economic depression. It began in the United States and it varied across nations. This was a time of great struggle and many people got laid off of their jobs.
  • The Stock Market Crash

    The Stock Market Crash was a four-day collapse of stock prices. It was the worst decline in the history of the United States and it had devastating effects on the people. So much money was lost from investors and banks were losing money left and right. People were starving, put into poverty and were struggling so much because of this
  • Unemployment

    The unemployment rose to 25% percent during the Great Depression. This was equal to 15 million unemployed Americans. Things were becoming more expensive and there was no money to buy anything with. The market hit an all-time low and nearly 50% of banks had closed or were near closing.
  • World War II Begins

    Hitler led Germany into Poland to invade and take over. They had agreed not to attack any countries and Hitler was breaking this agreement. All of the other countries realized that Germany wasn’t going to stop invading countries unless they did something to stop them and so Britain declared war on them a few days later
  • Battle of Britain

    The Battle of Britain was a military campaign where the Royal Air Force was defending the United Kingdom against the German’s Air Force, the Luftwaffe. It was a war in the air and it was fought entirely with air forces there was no fighting on the land. This was a major battle that helped to shape the course of the war.

    This Battle was known as the Fall of France because the Germans invaded it and defeated France. Italy also invaded France and so they had to surrender to them so that there wasn’t further destruction and death.
  • The Battle of Moscow

    The Battle of Moscow was a success for Russia and it hurt Germany and defeated some of their power. The Red Army had successfully rebuilt and they were doing very well and winning in battles.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    The attack of Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. The attack took place in Honolulu, Hawaii. This attack forced the United States to become involved in World War II even though they were trying to stay out of it for as long as they could.
  • The Battle of Midway

    The Battle of Midwat was a naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II. It took place almost 6 months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. This was another battle fought in the air with planes. The Americans lost 147 aircrafts and more than three hundred seamen. More than half of the Japanese survived and this was a battle that seemed unnecessary
  • World War II comes to an end

    World War II comes to an end
    After long, hard years of fighting, the Allies and the Axis finallly came to an end of fighting and slowly countries began to surrender. Hitler was gone because he committed suicide and so Germany had to surrender. After the Germans surrendered, Japan lost their hope and so they surrendered. The war unwinded and then there was peace again and people began to take bigger actions in order to prevent another war.
