When Clark Field was attacked to when the prisoners make it back to the U.S.

Clark Field is attacked.
At Corregidor, Manila Bay, Philippine Islands Japenese bombers bombed a military air field. The American soldiers try to fight back but don't have enough resources to win the battle. After the soldiers are forced to surrender they become prisoners of war. -
Prisoners are forced to march to a prison camp.
When the prisoners are marching people are being executed,their possesions are being taken and they are not being fed. Also people are getting diseases. People also try to run away but they are killed. -
The prisoners make it to Camp O' Donnell.
Inside the camp the prisoners are being poorly fed and are still dieing of diseases. Every day at least 50 people died of a disease or of starvation. Also Mike Dobervich, one of the main characters, just recovered from cerebral meningitis. -
A military base called "The Rock" is attacked by Japanese forces.
Japanese bombers attack "The Rock" and kill many people. People are also trapped in the underground tunnels. Although "The Rock" was suppose to be an inpenitrible fortress the Japanese destroyed it in a couple of days. -
"The Rock" surrenders
When the rock surrenders the prisoners are put on a boat and shipped to a prison camp where people died of starvation. The boat was suppose to fit 500 people, but the Japanese tried to squeeze in 1,000 people. It was so compact people couldn't move or sit down. -
The prisoners make it to Cabanatuan
In this prison camp the prisoners were being fed, however the food did not have enough nutrients to keep people alive. Many people died of diseases such as, elephantitis, encephalitis, and tuberculosis. Also mosquitoes spread deadly diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. -
The prisoners from both camps are put into one big prison camp
The prisoners from Camp O' Donnell and Cabanatuan are put into one big prison camp. In this prison camp the prisoners had to take care of coffee fields, poultry farms, and rice fields. In this camp all of the people who eventually escape meet eachother. -
An escape plan is made
The escape plan was very risky. First the prisoners had to steal supplies from the prison camp. And then the prisoners thought that they could pretend to go on the work detail but instead they would sneak off the trail into the jungle. -
The prisoners escape
When the prisoners escape everything goes according to plan. First they act as if they were going to the fields to work. After they passed the gaurd posts they retrieve thier hidden equipment and hed towards Naga Naga with their Phillippino guides where the USS Trout will pick them up and transport them back to safety. -
The escapees make it to the USS Trout
After a month of traveling through the jungle and swamps the escapees make it to the USS Trout. However Leo Boelens stayed with these Phillippino gorillas to fight the Japanese(Leo was later killed in Mindanao in early 1944). After a while the escapees made it to Washington D.C.
