  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    The creation of The Declaration of Independence occured when King George of Great Britain started over-taxing the Americans. Eventually, we began composing the document that declared our freedom from Great Britain. A group of men met in Independence Hall, Philadelphia, where they wrote the document. Finally, all of the men signed the document, and they sent it to the king, declaring our independence. This is very important because it allowed us to start a government and develop our country.
  • Signing of the Constitution

    Signing of the Constitution
    With the dissatisfaction of the Articles of Confederation, the Constitutional Convention was held in Philadelphia, PA. There, members from different states collaborated and wrote a document that we would later use as a form of government. There were many disagreements, but eventually the Constitution was ratified. This event is important because it improved our original form of government, and it showed us what we needed to change about the United States.

    Lewis and Clark's Expedition

    This trip was one that helped Jefferson explore the Louisiana Purchase, land that he had just bought. Lewis and Clark started in St. Louis and followed the Missouri River. When they got to the Rocky Mountains, they crossed them and then followed the Columbia River to Fort Clatsop. This was important because Lewis and Clark found many new animals, plants, and Native Americans. This helped the growth of the United States.

    The California Gold Rush was a time when gold was found in California. There were no laws to stop people, so they pretty much killed to get gold. Gold was very valuable and expensive at that time, so people had reasons to leave their families in search of gold. Many people went home with close to nothing, but there were very few who struck it rich. This was important because it formed one of America's greatest cities, San Francisco, practically overnight.

    The Battle of Gettysburg was one of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War. The Union was surrounded by Confederate troops, but they prevailed with their advantage in height. However, it cost both sides many casualties. It is important to United States history because it was the turning point of he war for the Union.
  • Lincoln's Assassination

    Lincoln's Assassination
    Lincol was watching a play at Ford's theater. All of a sudden, John Wilkes Booth, the assassin, came into the presidential box. He shot Lincoln in the head at point blank range. Booth escaped with a broken leg, but was eventually caught. Lincoln, however, was rushed to a hospital across the street where he officially died the next morning. This is important to United States history because it ruined the original plan for Reconstruction.

    The Gilded Age was a period in time when life was good for some people. however, most people were in poverty. A few people had lots of money and plenty of space to live in. On the other hand, the poor people were forced into cramped and dirty apartments. All of the poverty was masked by the few fortunate people with great lives. This is important to U.S. history because it helped our citizens realize that they needed to clean the place up.

    The OK Land Rush was when there was an abundance of land in the midwest. The government offered it to anyone who could improve the land for 5 years. After that, many people flooded the Great Plains and gobbled up all of the land. This is important to US History because it expanded the United States geographically.

    The Great Depression was a time when there happened to be an economic depression, which means that we were losing money. Although, it was not only in the United States. This depression occurred worldwide. People vwere losing their jobs because their employers couldn't pay for them. This also is not a happy time, but it is significant to the United States because it gave us a lot of damage, which we built off of to make our economy stronger.

    Apollo 11 Lands on the Moon
    Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that transported the first Americans to the moon and back to Earth. There, Neil Armstrong, the first American to set foot on the moon, and his companion, Buzz Aldrin, exited the space craft and had achieved the unthinkable. They were the first Americans to travel to the moon. This is a very important event in American history because it essentially ended the Space Race between the Americans and the Soviet Union. It is yet another victory for the U.S.
  • The Eruption of Mt. Saint Helens

    The Eruption of Mt. Saint Helens
    The eruption of Mt. St. Helens was a very big one in which it spewed ash over 11 U.S. states. It had been preceded by several earthquakes over a time period of two months. Before the eruption, a team of scientists had already saved thousands of lives by convincing local authorities to close the volcano to the general public. This event is important because it was a very rare experience for the United States. It was the only significant eruption since 1915.

    I was born in the Hospital of Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia where I lived for 7 years. I have a brother, a sister, a mom, a dad, and a dog. My dad is deaf, so I know sign language. At this point in my life, I enjoy playing basketball and hanging out with my friends.
  • Terrorist Attacks

    Terrorist Attacks
    The terrorist attacks were planes that flew into the twin towers and the Pentagon. This wasn't a very happy moment in time, but it is still important to the United States. It is very important because it shows that we came together as a unit to save everybody who was involved. Think of all the firemen who lost their lives trying to help other people in the building. As you can see, this is still a very important event to add in this timeline.
