  • Founding of Markham

    The town of Markham was founded in 1791 by William Moll Berczy. The name was given by John Graves Simcoe and named the town after his friend William Markham. Who then was the first European settler who brought 64 families to North America.
  • Extension of Yonge Street

    By 1857, the town has been mostly cleared of trees and lumber which gave each village like Thornhill, Markham and Unionville place to expand but since the villages were getting larger in size and population, they had to extend Yonge Street to improve transportation as a whole.
  • Buttonville General Store

    The Buttonville General Store was a store that provided everyone with everything they need to support them as a family. Now a days it is called Tortoise General Stored they sell mostly household items.
  • Markham GO Station

    The Markham GO Station was built in 1871 and provide the town of Markham with transportation and give people a way to travel to and from places. Today it has improved in size and where it travels to, it now travels farther because of the railroad getting extended. It was an another form of transportation if you didn't have a car.
  • Markham Town Hall

    The Town hall of Markham was a built in 1881 and located on Main Street and was where the decisions were created and where everything was decided. Today the Town Hall is used for solving problems in the community like traffic or extending roads and creating a new and safe environment for the City of Markham.
  • Markham Museum

    the Markham Museum and was built in 1971 and was to provide people with prices of artwork. It was also to educate people on what they represent and their meanings. This time around, the Museum provides tours of the facility. They also provide summer camps for young artist.
  • Cathedral of Transfiguration

    The final landmark is the Cathedral of Transfiguration and was built in 1984 and was a Slovak Greek Catholic Cathedral who was funded by a slovak immigrant. In 2006, They began upgrading the inside of the Cathedral and said the upgrades would take approximately 10 years. In 2016, the Church interior was completed and reopened.
