Tom binds his first ripper sucssfully. He got home and went right back to his lessons. While in the library tom read one of the spooks diarys that told him the spooks weak spot was also pretty girls. Tom then learned about what the bane was, a powerful creature of the dark, and learned that it had been bound and that himself and the spook would have to go and kill it.

Tom and the spook got to where the bane was bound and had to split up and wait a few days. While they were in different inns the quisitor, a very rich and powerful and his men came and took the spook away because he thought the spook had made a compact with the devil. Luckily the spook had a brother in town who could help tom get the spook back. They made a plan that had Tom go into where the bane was and get into where the spook was being held. Tom went and followed the plan.

Tom got to where the spook was and let out all the other prisiners but sadly the spook was not with them. But Toms friend Alice who was also acused of whitchery was set free. The guards herd noise and came to see what it was but Tom and Alice got away by going down to where the bane was bound. The bane tricked tom into thinking it was the spook but alice saved him. Alice and Tom got out and had to wait for most of it to blow over and then went to the spooks trial and burning.

Alice gave her blood to the bane and released it but it had to listen to her and do what she wanted 3 times. At the burning she freed all the prisioners with this power. Tom went home and got a letter from his mom who he also found out is a witch.

The spook made Tom dig a pit for Alice since she was a witch. Then they set off to go and figure out how to kill the bane. But along the way the quisitors men searched for them and Alice saved them by using the bane.

The spook figured out that to kill the bane he would have to get it back where it was bound and stab it through the heart with silver. So they set off to destroy it but at the very end the spook sent tom away to try and save him. But Tom read his moms letter that told him to go with the spook.

Tom followed the spook down into the catacombs where the bane used to be. Alice called the bane and they set to killing it. It injured the spook so Tom had to come to the rescue and shove the silver knife through its chest. Finally the bane was dead.

All three of them make it out alive and they go back to the spooks house. The spooks pet bogart was not happy with a witch staying in the house but the spook told it to whatch Alice's every move.
