    Birth of Gandhi

    Gandhi was born on October 2nd, 1869. He was born near Bombay, while his family belonged to Hindu merchant caste Vaisya.

    When Gandhi was 19 he started studying at University College in London. He studied law and philosophy, during this kids would snub him because he was from India.

    Gandhi saw that Indians came to South Africa as laborers. He went to Natal Indian Congress for Indian rights.

    Gandhi demanded he would die or go to jail before he obeyed an anti-Asian law. Thousands of people joined him in declaring this, yet he was imprisoned twice.

    In 1919 Gandhi became leader of the Indian National Congress political party. In 1920 he launched a noon operation campaign for Indians, which lead to prison in the later years.
