  • Libya's Interior Minister Has Quit

    BBC Article Fawzi Abdelali, Libya’s interior minister, have resigned in protest over the increasing violence agains Sufi Muslim shrines and other things in Libya. He criticized Congress, saying that they have not been defending the country against these attacks. The attacks have been blamed on ultra-conservative Salafi Islamists. There have also been recent car bombings and tribal violence. The General National Congress consists of rebels who fought against Gaddafi last year.

The attack was blamed on a small savage group but no terrorism organization has claimed the attack.

"Our brave youths will continue their struggle until they impose Sharia," Mr Zahawi said confidently. He said that the brigade was not linked to Al-Qaeda but he approved of their methods. He repeated that they were not behind the attack on the consulate. But he did not condemn the death of the ambassador.

But now that he is gone we want our rights, guaranteed by a new Libyan constitution." They are now asking for their rights but so far are being ignored.

    Article Bani Walid is a town in Libya that is said to have the last of the Gaddafi supporters. Militias have been shelling the town from three sides after people from the town kidnapped one of the men who is credited with capturing Gaddafi last year, Omran Ben Shaaban. Many people claim is was a pro-Gaddafi fraction that was responsible for the death and abduction. He was shot and tortured. The General National Congress negotiated his release but he died from his wounds in Paris.

    ArticleThe Libya’s General National Congress voted to approve the new government, headed by Prime Minister Ali Zidan. They came to this conclusion on Wednesday October 31st. The day before this they attempted to vote but they were interrupted by protesters who believed that some of the ministers in the proposed cabinet had ties with Gadaffi. Ali Zidan had attempted to include all parties in Libya in the cabinet including liberal, Islamists, and two women.

Eleven people have been charged so far in connection with the murder. He was found murdered and many officials gave varying accounts of how he died, Mr. Jalil was one of them.

The perliminary charge from Interpol was the forging of official documents but there are other charges as well.

He was indicated for war crimes in 2011 but both the ICC and Libya claim jurisdiction for that trial. Salif faces charges of complicity in exchanging information, obtaining documents that threaten national security and insulting the national flag. Evidence was shown during the hearing but the trial was then postponed until September 19th.
