First Mechanical Lawn Mower

The first mechanical lawn mower was invented in 1827 by a man named Edwin Beard Budding. It had blades attached to a cylinder and a handle to push.

2nd gen. mower

The next mower was chain driver. It was invented in 1859 by Thomas Green.

3rd gen. mower

Jan 1, 1870

In 1870 Elwood McGuire came out with a machine that was a lot lighter than Edwin Budding's lawn mower and was way easier to use.

4th gen. mower

Jan 1, 1893

James Sumner invented a steam powered mower in 1893. This machine took paraffin or petrol fuel.

5th gen. mower

Jan 1, 1900

In 1900 JP Engineering of Leicester and Ransomes' Automaton created chain-driven mowers also to be known as the first riding mower.

6th gen. mower

Jan 1, 1919

Colonel Edwin George come out with gasoline running lawn mowers in 1919.

7th. gen mower

Jan 1, 1930

Rotary mowers appeared in 1930 invented by power specialties Ltd. and C.C. Stacy. Stacy's version has a round blade horizontally that mounted vertically.

11th gen. mower

By 2015 there was such thing as gas and even battery mowers which were a lot more efficient than previous generations. Riding mowers were made to be a lot nicer.
