    Voyage on the Mayflower

    The Pilgrims left England so they can have the religious freedom. Indeed, they were a separatist group of the Church England. Also, a second group travelled on this boat, investors, so they can use the ressources of the American territory. During their travel, the men wrote and signed a treaty, the Mayflower Compact. It aims at agreeing altogether so they can take decisions and established laws.

    When they arrived, the settlers founded the Plymouth colony, in a region they named New England.
    The Pilgrims were teached by the Native Americans how to grow crops and more generally, how to survive in tough living conditions. This year, they had a great harvest, so they celebrated it, and it became a tradition. This holiday is now known as Thanksgiving.

    The colonists wanted to split from Great Britain, who imput them high taxes. Moreover, they were not represented in the Parliament, so they did not have power within the British Empire. Therefore, they stand up against the Empire and led a revolution, with acts such as Boston Tea Party.

    In 1848, the US fought with Mexico, then annexed from them California and a part of Midwest.
