    Congress Signs Declaration of Independence
    On this day, the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence. This meant that we were declaring our independence from Great Britain and we were becoming our own country. It put us at war with Great Britain for 5 years. The signing of the document set our country up to be free and to become one of the greatest country's in the world.
  • U.S. Constitution Was Signed

    U.S. Constitution Was Signed
    The U.S. Constitution was signed on this day. It was our second form of governemt after the Articles of Confederation. It gave the government just enough power to protect our rights but not dictate us. This set our country up to have a government with people who were allowed to make an impact in their country. The Constituion also set up the states to have power, and it sets up the guidelines for our country. It also made us the first modern country to use a democracy.

    Cotton Gin Is Invented
    Eli Whitney invented the Cotton Gin. The Southerners loved it because it helped them to be able to harvest more cotton. The problem was that it caused a greater demand for slaves. Although using slaves was bad, the Cotton Gin and the slaves have made America one of the leaders in cotton production. It became a really important business for America and it still is. It impacts America's economy today.

    In 1803, Thomas Jefferson made a deal called the Louisiana Purchase. It nearly doubled the size of America. It gave us more land and made America a bigger country. This put a lot of impact on future America because it increased the size of the country and put us closer to the level of the great countries at the time. It also gave us lots of more space for people to move and farm and now because of that, lots of people live down there and it is a huge part of America.

    This was a battle in the Civil War between the North and the South. This was one of the first battles that the North started to gain momentum from. This was very important to U.S. History because it was the battle that helped the North get the confidence they needed to win the entire war. If they hadn't gained momentum from the Battle of Gettysburg and hadn't won the war, the country would be a lot different today.
  • Abraham Lincoln's Assassination

    Abraham Lincoln's Assassination
    Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on this day. He was enjoying a show with his family when Booth came Ford's Theatre and shot Lincoln in the back of the head. This event was very important to U.S. History because it impacted so many people. When Lincoln died, America's plans for Reconstruction changed. Rebuilding the South would have been a lot easier with Lincoln. There was a lot of problems and racism in the South that the Country wouldn't have had if Lincoln lived.
  • Battle of Little Big Horn

    Battle of Little Big Horn
    On June 25th, 1876, the Battle of Little Big Horn occured. George Custer led his troops in a battle against the Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne indians. Custer didn't realize how many indians were in the tribe, and his group was outnumbered. Every soldier with Custer and Custer himself died. The event became known as Custer's Last Stand.

    The Chinese Exclusion Act was passed on May 6th, 1882. People who were bron in America were worried that the Chinese would steal their jobs. Lots of racism resulted from this. Eventually, the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed, but ended ten years later. It was and is important to America because the act caused lots of racism affected our relationship with the Chinese.

    America Joins World War II

    America joined World War II after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. America drafted men to be in the army. Germany finally surrendered on May 2nd, 1945. However, Japan refused to surrender. In response, America hit Japan with two atomic bombs and they surrendered, which ended the war on September 2nd, 1945. After the war, the U.S. became the richest country. It made the country more prosperous. The economy also grew because of the war. We became one of the world's "superpowers" because of it.

    "I Have a Dream Speech"/March in Washington D.C.
    On this day, more than 200,000 people took part in a march for freedom. Then later on this day, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have a Dream" speech. It influenced the government to give African Americans more rights. This had made African Americans more free today. They are now treated like people. Everybody, even if they are a different race, are now treated as equals.

    Apollo 11 Landed On the Moon
    On this date, America landed the Apollo 11 on the moon. This was the first time a spaceflight was able to land humans on the moon. Our country has put more time and money into NASA because of this, which means we can search and discover more about space. It also has given Americans more patriotism for being the first humans to walk on the moon.

    I was born in the Ephrata hospital. Some of the people in my family are my mother, Jen, my father, Shawn, my Brother, Seth, and my sister, Sarah. Some of my interests are reading, playing basketball, and field hockey.

    Terrorists Attacks
    On this day, the Twin Towers and the Pentagon was attacked by terrorists. Both Twin Towers were hit by planes and collapsed. The Pentagon was also hit by a plane. Over 3,000 people died that day because of the attacks. Overall, the event has caused our country to tighten the security on important places. The event has made our country stronger and the people more patriotic. Also, the country is more connected and closer between states because of the horrific event.
