    Kristi Yamaguchi was born on July 12, 1971 in Hayward, California. She was one of the three children born from her siblings.

    Since Dorothy Hamill won the Women's Olympic Single Title, Kristi was inspired to figure skate. When she was 8 yrs. old she competed in her 1st ever competiton.

    Kristi and Rudi won the National Junior Championship in 5th place.

    She became the Central Pacific Junior Championship and qualified again to compete in the National Junior for a medal event. She won 4th place this time.

    She was a gold medalist in both singles and pairs categories at the World Junior Championships in Brisbane, Australia.

    Kristi had won her first senior title, a gold medal in pairs competition at the National Championships in Baltimore, Maryland.

    Kristi decided to withdraw form pairs competition and devote her time to singles competition because, it became harder to divide her traveling time.

    Tonya Harding became the 2nd female to land the triple axel in competition. Tonya had a club called the Royal Glenora Club to teach skaters her neat tricks, which Kristi joined.

    At age of 20, Kristi became the 1st woman to win the olymoic championship title in figure skating since Dorothy Hamill in 1976.
