  • The NRA comes into power

    After years of a civil war which killed hundreds of thousands of people and caused massive displacement, Yoweri Musevini's National Resistance Army takes over. Under this leader, Uganda has achieved economic growth, the rebuilding of it's broken infrastructure, a free press and judiciary, and most importantly peace.

  • Kony and his LRA

    Joseph Kony began to lead to an armed struggle in the north, where Musevini's influence was lesser. Kony's force is known as the LRA (Lords Resistance Army) but his sheer brutality led to the loss of local support.
  • The Ceasefire

    The LRA declared a ceasefire for the duration of the elections in the hope that Musevini would be defeated.
  • The Retaliation

    After a resounding win by Musevini in the elections, the LRA attacks Lamwo, in northern Uganda which kills 400 people and displaces more than 100,000.
  • The Invisible Children

    Uganda signs an agreement with Sudan in an effort to contain the LRA rebel group, which are active on their common border. The LRA want to run Uganda on the basis of ten Commandments, to be enforced by 'prophet' Joseph Kony. He tries to achieve this by kidnapping thousands of the children to become fighters or sex slaves, to be known as 'The Invisible Children'.
  • The Reward

    The Ugandan Government announce a reward for the capture of Kony - a reward of just $11,000
  • The Evacuation

    LRA brutally attacks villages until the army is forced to evacuate 40,000 civilians caught in the fight.
  • Slaughter in the North

    LRA slaughter more than 200 people who were displaced in the north.
  • The Interview

    Kony gives an interview in which he professes not to be the villain, and that Musevini had mutilated the faces of thousands of children.
  • Peace Process Thwarted

    Kony is due to sign a peace deal with the Ugandan Government but pulls out after fears that he and his allies might be prosecuted.
  • Christmas Day Massacre

    The LRA are then responsible for the 'Christmas Day Massacre' where more than 800 people from the north-eastern parts of DR Congo and Sudan were beaten to death.
  • STOPKONY

    Four years later, the 'Stop Kony' campaign is released through a viral marketing campaign but it's almost neo-colonial views of the 'helpless' African infuriate Uganda.
