    Konrad Zuse was born in Berlin, Germany on June 22, 1910. His parents were Emil and Maria Crohn Zuse.

    Konrad begins his education at Technical University in Berlin-Charlottenburg, while he is attending school he is offered a job as a aircraft design engineer. He was always interested in speeding up mathematical equations and began majoring in civil engineering.

    Zuse graduated in 1931 and began his career at an aircraft company, He spent a majority of his weekends building a computer (the Z1) at his parents house.
  • Z1

    Zuse built this machine at home, he called it the the Z1, the machine was operational, yet not completely reliable. He showed it to several people but the mechanical components seemed to always get stuck. A friend, Helmut Schreyer suggested the idea of using vacuum tubes.

    After creating the Z1, Zuse was called to serve in the army, he was than deployed for 6 months in the Eastern front. Zuse tried to receive a transfer to Berlin in order to be able to still work on his computing machines. (His transfer for approved)

    Zuse greatest achievement was creating the world's first programmable computer. He was then known for being the first inventor of the computer. One that was programable and functional. (Turing Complete Z3)

    Zuse also created the S2 computing machine, which was considered the first process control computer. As well being a founder of the earliest computer businesses. He then went on to produce the Z4, which soon became the world's first commercial computer.

    During these years Zuse figured that programming in machine code was so hard and complicated. Therefore he began designing the first high level programming language, Plankalkul which means "Plan Calculus"

    Zuse marries Gisela Brandes. Their first son, Horst, was also born in 1945 in November. He was the first of five children.

    During this time.. "the Zuse KG produced more than 250 computers with a value of 100 Million DM. Although in 1964 the Zuse KG had orders of more than 25 Million DM, it was for Konrad Zuse impossible to keep the Zuse KG as his own company."
