    Homestead Act of 1862
    This was a way to encourage westward expansion by allowing people 160 acres of land for cheap with a requirement to stay for 5 years to own the land. For such a low price, many people were willing to face harsh conditions for land of their own. It fed into the idea of Manifest Destiny and caused the Oklahoma land rush.

    Civil War Amendments
    These are the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to the u.s. constitution and were intended to provide more racial equality in the nation. The 13th amendment abolished slavery, the 14th provided a more broad definition of u.s. citizenship, and the 15th granted voting rights regardless of their race, color, or if they had been a slave. They are called the "Civil War Amendments" because they were added directly after the civil war.

New inventions and technological advancements sparked the massive boom of industry in the U.S. The factory conditions were very poor and typically had a low wage as people would work just to get paid. It was common for immigrants and children to work in the factories.

The working conditions were harsh, the pay was low, and people, especially immigrants and children, were willing to do it.

    This is the process of taking in or being absorbed or adapting into something. This was used with the native Americans who were forced into being American. They wanted the natives to be more European.

    This is the act of moving from one country to another permanently and is commonly done for safety or a try at a better life. During the gold rush, many came to try and get rich, however, their dreams were much unlike reality and they commonly took on other jobs and lived a mediocre life. Immigration played a large part in industrialization and the construction of the transcontinental railroad as they wanted jobs, even if they had to work in harsh conditions for a low pay.

    With the boom of manifest destiny closing in on the U.S., the western population climbed. After the Oklahoma land rush, the population of the west skyrocketed. This lead to the frontier line to no longer exist.

    The influence of America on other countries. This can be things as little as pop culture or as big as political techniques. Things such as the constitution have been fairly influential while other things such as McDonalds have spread to other countries.
  • Urbanization

    Urbanization
    This is the condensing of the population in order to form large towns and cities. It is commonly linked to industrialization as there were large amounts of people working in the same area and they wanted to live closer to their workplace. Urban areas have the advantage of being closer to everything you need however problems, such as high pollution and high population density, can arise if the area becomes too large.

    Rural and Urban
    Rural refers to the more secluded, countryside type area while Urban refers to a more developed, more densely populated area. Rural areas were commonly used as farmland while urban areas commonly had factories. When urbanization really hit the u.s., many rural areas were turned into cities and they had to now het materials from another area.
