    Myanmar had gained independence from the British Colonial. This created a long term effect on Myanmar, as this is the foundation and beginning of the Myanmar Conflict.

    A new leader by the name of U Nu is elected and creates rifts between his party and the military. This is a short term trigger to him being overthrown in just 2 years by a military coup.

    U Nu is overthrown by General Ne Win, of the Myanmar Armed Forces, which replaced the parliamentary government with the military. This created a long term effect as it has caused many conflicts with the differing views of the military and the people of Myanmar, especially the way the military had been treating the people of Myanmar inhumanely.

    8888 Uprising
    Anti-government protests and riots began to happen due to Ne Win's rule and governing system. They protested against the political oppression and mishandling of the economy. The event resulted in 3000 people dying. This created a short term trigger in the aftermath, which helped create the National League for Democracy.

    The National League for Democracy party was created, with help by Aung San Suu Kyi. She was arrested prior to the NLD winning the election, but this didn't mean the NLD were in charge of the country as it was ignored by the military.

    For years, Aung San Suu Kyi was imprisoned, either on house arrest or in prison. She was honored in keeping strong to her beliefs and motivated her supporters and around the world as a Hero of Democracy. She was in jailed between 1990-2010.
