Hull house can be best described as a charity education for the poor. Hull house was a very important event in education history because in 1889 there were not any places like this to bring kids. At Hull house, they provided kindergarten and daycare facilities for the children of working mothers. Hull house was also a very important event in education history because it was completely ran by women in order to help out the other mothers around the area. -
The first SAT was created
The Scholastic Achievement Test was created to measure the education level of students seeking college admission. This was an important event that shaped modern day K-12 education, because many high school students take this test today to determine their education levels. These education levels then determine whether those students need more education assistance, or if they are ready to move onto college. -
American Federation of Teachers
In 1916, teaching was recognized as a profession. This is an important event that shaped modern day K-12 education because the parents were aware that their children's teachers were recognized as professional teachers. This also is important because those who were wanting to be teachers had to go through a number of years of schooling in order to earn their degree. This helped shaped modern day K-12 education by hiring professionals to teach children important content within the classroom. -
Schools Began Following a Curriculum
All schools began following a curriculum that included 3 years of Math, 4 years of English, 3 years of Science, 3 years of Social Studies, and 1/2 a year of Computer Education. This has helped shape modern day K-12 education by allowing them to follow the same curriculum. This curriculum is still being followed today. -
Individual Disability Education Act was offered
The IDEA was made to ensure free education for disabled children. This helped out many parents who received a low income, and also had children with disabilities. The IDEA ensures special education and related services to those children. This event helped shape modern day K-12 education by creating a program for children with special needs to get an education.
