  • The Seven Years War Begins

    The seven years war involved many super powers in Europe as well as the Americas. The main conflict was between Britain and France over colonial territories. The war ended in 1763 with the treaty of Paris and the treaty of Hubertusberg.
  • John Quincy Adams is Born

    John Quincy Adams is Born
    He was born in Braintree, MA. His parents were John and Abigail Adams. "At birth, John Quincy was the most recent in a long line of illustrious fore bearers who helped shape the destiny of the English speaking world" (Unger 7).
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston massacre was an attack on the colonists by the British soldiers. The event was used a propaganda to make people turn against the British. In total five people died and six were injured.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Battle of Bunker Hill was an American revolutionary war battle. It took place in Charlestown, Massachusetts. John Quincy Adams witnessed this battle with his mother when he was a young boy.
  • The Treaty of Paris Signed

    The Treaty of Paris Signed
    The Treaty of Paris was a document that officially ended the American Revolutionary War. It recognized the colonies as their own independent nation. It was drafted in 1782 and signed in 1783.
  • The French Revolution Begins

    The French Revolution Begins
    The French Revolution was an uprising of the French people against the monarchy. It brought about enlightenment ideas and political change. Napoleon rose to power at this time and eventually became the emperor of France. The revolution lasted until 1799.
  • George Washington becomes President

    George Washington becomes President
    George Washington was the first president of the united states. He was unanimously elected by the electoral college. He served two terms ending in 1797.
  • John Quincy Adams Graduates College

    He graduated from Harvard with a master of arts in 1790. After finishing school he practiced law in Boston. "Although Harvard seemed a backward country school compared with the university Leyden or England's great institutions at Oxford an Cambridge, the pathway to professional and political leadership in America began in Cambridge Massachusetts, not Cambridge England"(Unger 57).
  • John Quincy Adams is Elected U.S. Senator

    He served as a U.S. senator from March 4th 1803 to June 8th 1808. He was a federalist that represented the state of Massachusetts.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase was the acquisition of land from France. The total amount of land was around 828,000 square miles.
  • John Quincy Adams Becomes the First U.S. Minister of Russia

    He was appointed by James Madison on November 5th, 1809. He was the first person from the united states to become a minister of Russia. He served in this position until April 28th, 1814.
  • The war of 1812

    The war of 1812
    The war of 1812 was a war between Britain and the United States. The war was brought on by trade restrictions imposed on the United States by Britain.
  • John Quincy Adams Becomes The Secretary of State

    He became the Secretary of State on September 22nd, 1817. He served under president Monroe. He served until March 4th, 1825 when he became president.
  • Napoleon Bonaparte Dies

    For many years his health deteriorated. At the time of his death a mask was created in his honor. His official cause of death was stomach cancer, but it has been debated by historians.
  • John Quincy Adams is Elected President of the United States

    He was the sixth president of the united states . He was sworn into office on March 4th, 1825. Andrew Jackson had won the popular vote but had not won enough votes from the electoral college. "In September 1823, Crawford suffered a paralytic stroke, leaving Adams, Jackson, and Clay as the only active presidential contenders. Adams was the clear favorite"(Unger 230).
  • Andrew Jackson Becomes President

    Andrew Jackson Becomes President
    He beat John Quincy Adams for the presidency in 1829. He was originally from Tennessee. He was popular with the common people because he did not grow up rich and fought in the war of 1812.
  • John Quincy Adams Joins the House of Representatives

    He did not retire after losing the 1818 election. He was elected into the house of representatives for Massachusetts. He served from March 4th 1831 to his death, February 23rd 1848.
  • The Great Famine of Ireland

    The Great Famine was a mass starvation of Irish citizens due to diseased potatoes. Potatoes were the main crop in Ireland and many people were dependent on them. Even though this happened in 1845, it has had a lasting impact on Ireland's demographics, politics, and economy.
  • The Discovery of Gold

    The Discovery of Gold
    The Gold rush marked the turning point in American History. the Gold brought more settlers of the west and expanded conflict with native Americans. The gold was found by James W. Marshall.
  • John Quincy Adams dies at 80

    He died of a cerebral hemorrhage on February 23rd, 1848. He died inside the capitol building. He was buried in Quincy Massachusetts.
  • Crimean War Begins

    The war was fought by the Russians and the ottomans, the British and the French. The main cause of the war was christian minority rights in the ottoman empire. It lasted from 1853 to 1856.
