  • First Fleet

    The first fleet was sent from England to Australia for there were to many convicts in the prisons.
    There were 11 ships in the first fleet, 6 of these ships held convicts. Around 200 of these 750 convicts were women.
    They arrived in Botany bay in early 1788.
    But then moved to Port Jackson. Within the first two years there was a great struggle, the crops wouldn’t grow and the animals were sometimes killed by the aborigines. until the Justinian and the second fleet arrived
  • Mathew Flinders

    Mathew Flinders entered the navy at the age of 15.Mathew Flinders met George Bass when they were sailing to Australia on the Reliance. They soon became great friends. Mathew flinders was the man who came up with the name Australia, this name was adopted in the year 1824. Mathew insisted on setting up a ship to prove that Tasmania is in fact an island and he did this took place in 1798. But this was Mathew’s last cruise with George, because later on George mysteriously disappeared in the Pacific

    Ned shot a policeman for trying to arrest his brother. They fled into the bush and formed a gang with two other men. At Ned Kelly’s last fight he wore the golden sash under his armour.
  • Ned Kelly part1

    Ned’s parents were named John Kelly (or Red) and Ellen Quinn. They had two daughters before him.
    Ned also had a younger brother called Dan.
    Ellen’s relatives were often in trouble with the law. They moved north to get away. Ned’s father died after being released from prison Ned was only 11 when this happened so he started to hate the law. He got a gold sash while at school for saving a seven year old boy from drowning in a river.
    When he was a young man he fought the police.

  • Federation

    Before federation there were six separate colonies
    each with a different set of laws. In the 1800s politicians discussed joining the colonies, to make one nation. They called this idea federation. A lot of people agreed with federation, but some politicians did not. So they then held a vote. Federation was picked. Federation took place on the 1st of the 1st 1901.
