The Word of God tells us that God spoke to Jonah in order for him to go to the City of Nineveh. Instead of going to Nineveh, Jonah escapes in a boat and goes in the opposite direction.
-
For having disobeyed, God sent a strong storm and after Jonah had manifested that he was to blame, he was thrown into the sea.
-
After Jonah is thrown into the sea, God commands a large fish to swallow him up.
-
After the fish has swallowed Jonah, he prays from within the fish in repentance. God commands the fish to vomit him out on dry land.
-
After he had been cast on dry land, the voice of the Lord came to Jonah a second time commanding him to go to the city of Nineveh to proclaim God's message and the people of that city repent.
-
Seeing that the people repented, God spared that city and because of that the prophet Jonah was very angry. He wanted to see those people being destroyed by God.
-
After Jonah laments over the dead plant, God asks him if He shouldn't have mercy on the people of Nineveh.
