He was born in Scotland on January 11, 1815. at the ago of five years old he and his family moved to upper Canada, more specifically Kingston. -
John married his cousin
He got married the first time with his cousin Isabella Clark, after two years of happy marriage she fell in a serious ill, they had two children ,the first one died at 13 months after birth and the second one went through infancy. and then she died at the age of 48 never recovering from her illness -
Confederation
This is the year Canada was born. All the colonies had agreed that they should unite. Quebec almost didn't want to confederate because they were afraid to lose their language and culture -
Became 1st Prime Minister of Canada
He served as Prime Minister from 1867 to 1873. Then he won again and he became Prime Minister for the second time from 1878 to 1891. -
John got married for the second time
After his first wife past away, he decided to marry Susan Bernard. They had a daughter with hydrocephalus -
John makes the Indian Act
Indian Act came to be developed over time through separate pieces of colonial legislation regarding Aboriginal peoples across Canada such as the Gradual Civilization Act of 1857 and the. In 1876, these acts were consolidated as the Indian Act.
“The great aim of our legislation has been to do away with the tribal system and assimilate the Indian people in all respects with the other inhabitants of the Dominion as speedily as they are fit to change.” This is what John A MacDonald said in 1887 -
Re-elected
He was re-elected as Prime Minister of Canada from 1878 to 1891. -
Railway Building
The railway was undergoing construction. This was his main promise from National Policy. With a railway he would be able to have goods travel easily through the country and that would be very easy for defense from the United States because soldiers would be able to move cross country faster. -
John A MacDonald dies
John A Macdonald dies this day from natural causes. He was the first Prime Minister in Canada and the biggest role in the Canadian Pacific Railway. If it weren't for him Canada would not be the same as it is present day.
