    Education was a problem in the early 1820's, Horace Mann led a movement to improve education for other children in America to make school more available for them. By the 1850's, many states in the West and North used Mann's idea's. Soon white children, mostly boys attented public schools. But, schools was still not open for everyone.

    Fredrick Douglass was a huge leader in abolishing slavery. He preached and taught people the horrible realities of slavery and what slaves have to go through. He started his own newspaper The North Star and taught people the same things he was teaching others.

    Many women thought that slavry should be made illeagal and made lots of arguments to try and end it, although no one listened. Women were leagally allowed to own their money it was owned by the farther or husband. they were also not allowed to vote. In 1840 women started a movement to attemp to end slavery.

    Dorothea Dix was a boston women, she made seccessful acts in helping the mentally ill. She approved to teach at a sunday school and saw how many inmates there were of mentally ill. she wrote up a detailed report to the massachusetts state legislatures to change peoples mind about the mentally ill. she thought the ill need to be cared for and have bettter treatment. the report made a change, now mentally ill are cared for in mental hospitals in many states.
