    He and his friend Tim Maurer in 1998 formed "Bomb Squad" with their friends. In the same year the band recorded their first EP with the name of the band. Shortly after the band changed its name to "Suburban Legends". In 1999 the band released their first studio album entitled Origin Edition, Not long after the release, The Rev left the band in 1999. Later in 2000 Justin Sane would also leave the band to become the new bassist of the band Avenged Sevenfold.

    The Huntington Beach police reported that the death was due to natural causes, according to the scene. The results of the autopsy that was performed on December 30 were inconclusive. The toxicology report confirmed that The Rev suffered from severe intoxication due to the combined effects of Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Diazepam / Nordiazepam and Ethanol.
