    Jack Churchill
    Lieutenant Jack Churchill (September 16 1906 - March 8, 1996). Nicknamed Fighting Jack Churchill or Mad jack, he was a british solder who fought throughout the Second World War.

    Churchill Resumed commission after Hitler Invaded Poland in September 1939. In May 1940 Churchill and his unit, the Manchester Regiment ambushed a German Patrol near Richebourg, France. Churchill signed the attack by cutting down the enemy sergeant with a barbed arrow. This was makes Jack Churchill the only British Soldier to have killed an enemy with a longbow in WWII.

    Churchill was second in Command in Operation Archery. This was a riad on the German garrison at Vagsoy, Norway on December 27, 1941. Right when the ramps fell from the landing craft, he just out playing "March of the Cameron Men" on his bagpipes as his fellow soldiers filed out of the landing craft. He then accompanied them all into battle.

    In July 1943, Churchill acting as a commanding officer lead 2 commandos with his Scottish broadsword slung around his waist, and a longbow and arrows around his neck and his bagpipe under his arm. Churchill was ordered to capture a German bservation post outside of the town of Molina, this controlled a pass leading down to Salerno beach-head. With the aid of a Corporal he infiltrated the town and captured the post taking 42 prisoners which included a motor squad.

    In 1944 Jack Churchill lead Commandos in Yugoslavia, they were supporting Josip broz Tito's Partisans from the Adriatic Island of Vis. In May he was ordered to raid a German held island called Brac. He organised a army of 1,500 men for the raid. The attack proved unsuccessful, and they withdrew and planned another attack the following day.

    The previous day's attack on Brac island had failed, so they re-grouped and planned to attack again today. When they hit the shore they hit heavy resistance, All but Churchill and 6 men left from the beach and reached the objective. As the Germans advanced a gernade killed all 6 of his men, and knocked Churchill unconcious. Churchill was captured, he was later flown to Berlin and interrogated and then transferred to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.

    After Churchill's escape attempt had failed, all of the men there were fearing for their lives. A delegation of prisoners told Senior Germany officers that they were fearing for their lives. A German army unit commanded by Captain Wichard von Alvensleben moved in so that they could protect the prisoners from the SS guards. The SS guards moved out, and the prisoners were released, churchill walked 93 miles to Verona Italy where he met an American Armoured Force.

    As the Pacific was was still going on, Churchill was sen sent to Burma were some of the largest land battles against the Japanese were being fought. By the time Churchill reached India, Hiroshima and Nagasaki had been bombed and the war ended. Churchill was said to be unhappy that the war had suddenly ended, and said: " If it wasn't for those damn Yanks, we could have kept the war going another 10 years.
  • Post War

    Post War
    After the Second World war ended, Churchill qualified as a parachutist, transferred to the Seaforth Highlanders, and he was later posted to Palestine as a second-in-command of the 1st Battalion, the Highland Light Infantry. Churchill was involved in a serious of other smaller conflicts. Churchill retired from the army in 1959, receiving two awards of the Distinguished Service Order.
