When what is now Italy was divided into seperate states. An Italian King Sardinia to the north, but Austria ruled other northern states. The barbon's ruled to the south, & the pope owned anything around Rome.

Nationality started to grow. More & more Italians wanted to be united as one country. Nationalist efforts kept failing, but that was until Camillo di covour became prime minister of Sardinia.
