    Made highway and railroad programs and civil liberties. Opposed clerical privelage. This increased support for Sardinia throughout northern Italy.

    Napolean came to Sardinia defense.

  • Napolean made a compromise peace with Austrians

    Napolean decided it was not in his best interest to have too strong a state at his south border. Plus was criticized for helping Pope's declared enemy.

  • Sardinia recieves only Lombardy. Cavour resigns his place.

  • Cavour returns to power and gives territory to France for support

  • Central Italy joined kingdom of Sardinia

    Popular revolts in Central Italy caused this to happen because they wanteed to join Sardinia. These nationalists held firm.

  • Garibaldi liberated the kingdom of Two Siciles

    Garibaldi and his band of Red Shirts captured imagination of Sicilian peasantry. Him and his band outwitted army and won battles.

  • Cavour intercepted Garibaldi before he could invade Rome.

    Cavour realized that an attack on Rome would bring about war with France.
