    Italy gains National Unity

    The government wanted to unite all those of Italin ethnicity within one border through the policy of irredentism. As well any nations that would like to become Italian could join. Italy wanted as many nations to join as possible so they could aquire new land.

    The Treaty of Versailles
    After the first World War, Italy was rewarded with just two small countries. The people were very unhappy with this and began to blame the liberal government. This sent Italy into a post-war depression and was magnified by the displeasure of the peace treaties. The people wanted change, Mussolini stepped in and used their anger to take control of Italy and impose his ideology on them.

    Mussolini is First Elected into Parliment

    Mussolini is first elected into parliment where he founds the National Facist Party. The prty which started with little power had as many as 300 000 followers by the end of the year, many of which were powerful people as well as the catholic church.This gave him the power he needed to establish a dictatorship.

    An attempt to take control of the government. Mussolini sought to become even more powerful. Though it never happened the word of the uprising posed a great enough threat so that the Prime Minister and government resigned.

    Mussolini is offered the Premiership
    Due to the planned facist uprising the Prime Minister and government of Italy stepped down. The King of Italy then proceeded to ask Mussolini to form government of his own. This was the start of major change in Italy. In the near future the ideology of the country would completely change.

    Mussolini Become the Dictator of Italy

    In 1925 Mussolini declared himself the dictator of Italy. He gave himself the title Il Duce and he used his power to make Italy a European power once again. The dictatorship was held together by a strong grip on Italy which allowed him to expand Italy's empire.

    While the rest of the world was in the beggining of the Great Depression, Mussolini had initiated many stte projects which cept their economy strong and Italy avoided much of the economic turmoil that others did. For this, people were proud to be Italian and extremely happy with their leader, which increased the sence of nationalism amoung the citizens of Italy.

    Italy Captures Ethiopia

    Mussolini organized the attck on Ethiopia and within months they had captured the capital (Adis Ababa) and named an emperor of their own. The was and expansion was extremely popular in Italy but created closer allies with Nazi Germany as they supported Italy in their conflict while the League of Nations did not.
