  • Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi's Coming into Power

    Mohammad Reza Pahlavi becomes the last Shah of Iran. With his rule, come the elaborate plans for making Iran a "westernized" country. Although his motives are to modernize Iran, his methods of doing so are brutal. His use of violence and the secret police (SAVAK) to enforce his laws becomes a prominent reason for his downfall.

    Pahlavi's Rule and Its Effects

    Over all, the last Shah's rule showed remnants of both improvements in the country as a whole through communications and trasportation advancements and economic profit. However, they also left a deep scar for the brutality of his actions against Iranian people for the purpose of Westernization.
  • The Assassination of the Shah's Prime Minister

    On this day, the Feda'iyan-e Islam gunned down the Prime Minister of Islam. Because of the rising tension that had occurred with teh Shah's policies and Westernization, the rebel group was attempting to show its strength and opinion by killing the man who supported the selling of oil to Western countries. Outbreaks by the rebellion groups was increasing.

    Poverty among Iranian People

    During this time period, the gap between the rich and the poor increased and there was much poverty and economic problems among the Iranian people. Eventually the Shah did attempt and succeed in fixing the problem, but at this time, it was quite extreme. Also, due to this, faith in the Shah also began to decrease.

    As the Shah's rule lengthens, he begins to crave control and power, thus dissolving the government. This causes distress and hesitiation among the Iranian public, amking them prone to thoughts of revolution.

    The Iranian Revolution

    The Iranian revolution described the end of Shah Pahlavi's rule and the last Shah empire and the beginning of the Islamic Republic under the control and rule of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the revolution. This marks the end of Iran's move towards a westernization development and back to the traditional Iranian and Islamic values.
  • Shah Pahlavi's Exile

    The shah was exiled from Iran on this day, and he ran away in order to prevent threat to his life. Quickly, withing two weeks of the Shah leaving, Khomeini took over and addressed his Iranian people as a ruler.

    Ayatollah Khomeini's Rule

    During his rule, he brought back the strict Islamic law. Women were considered inferior again and were required to completely cover themselves. His call for an Islamic Revolution led to war between Iran and Iraq, qhich was eventually resolved on 20th August 1988 by both countries accepting to a cease-fire. Khomeini's death in 1989 ended his rule as Supreme leader of Iran.

    On this day, with a landslide victory, the Islamic republic is born. Along with it, a constitution has been formed, with all of the ideals of Islamic government that Khomeini supports and accepts.

    During November of 1979, the Iranian public accepted Khomeini as the Supreme Leader of Iran. His primary goals in ruling and moving Iran forward was to extricate all Western influence from the country and undo all the westernization ideals the Shah had attempted to embed in Iran. His fierce hat of the West spurred him on, sometimes to extremes.

    The Gulf Wars

    The Gulf Wars were initiated by Saddam Hussein in response to the fear and apprehension Khomeini had accumulated because of the Iranian Republic's revolution on the Shah. THese wars were long, harsh, and caused a death of 1.3 million people. Many believe that these wars were caused originally by Khomeini's revolution which showed the possibility of attack on Iran.
  • Khomeini's Death

    On this day, Khomeini died due to cancer. However, his ideals and perspectives did not disapear because there were and still are many who support his mode of thought and don't hesitate to act upon the things they believe in. They have wrecked havoc in many parts of the world, including the US and Iran.
