IR: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: by Rick Riordan

  • Overall premise

    Overall premise
This book was about Magnus Chase who has fought through tough events. His mom got killed by a wolf when he was little, that made him have no parents sence his dad left before he was born. Over the course of the book you will see how a kid on the streets went and saved the nine worlds from destruction by fenrir (the most powerful being in the nine worlds), Loki, and Surt. Allong the way he meets new friends and gets to know his old friends to a whole new level.
  • Event one : Two years after his mom dies

Event one : Two years after his mom dies
After being homeless for a few years he made two friends Hearth, and Blitz who were also homeless and looked out for him. One day he wakes up but Blitz says conserningly,"good mornin you're going to die." His cousin and uncle were looking for him, he remembers his mom said something like," stay away from your family." He goes to his uncle anyway who takes him to the sword of summer. Surt shows up and kills him by impaling him with concrete to kill him. Here I was just wondering why?
  • Event two : Death realy doesn't suck

Event two : Death realy doesn't suck
Magnus Case just died yesterday after saving lives on the bridge he died on, as a result you train in Valhalla for ragnarok (the end of everything). He got chosen by sam a valkryie who is also a daughter of Loki, so his is made to look bad because her dad. He gets humiliated in frount of tons of other warriors who got chosen to come here including his hall mates. In addition, him and his hall mates go into a fight that shows Magnis's powers. I was amazed at the after life and worried for Magnis.
  • Event three: The Norns

    Event three: The Norns
The three who chose the life or death of anything, the norns. They showed up the day after Magnus arrived to read his fate. His fate was just said to be a mistake and they will determine his fate at a later time. This was the first time the normas have came to Valhalla so it was serious. Durring this I was extreemly worried for Magnis because in other stories the Norns are bad business but it turns out to be fine and The Norns never show up again in this book.
  • Event six: Your own funeral

    Event six: Your own funeral
Magnus goes to his own funeral and brings an elf. By now he got a confession Hearth is a magic elf and Blitz is a fashion dwarf. They search for the sword but just find Magnus's elf knocked out and someone running away. Thay catch up to her and it is Sam, so they make peace and they now will go together. There is no sword but they have more people to continue their quest to stop Surt from unbinding Fenrir. This was dissapointing to me because I wanted to see some more action.
  • Event four: Just go

    Event four: Just go
Since when do your homeless friends come falling out of trees in dead mans land? Blitz and Hearth both fall out of his room's tree and they push him out the door because they got chased by the world squirrel. When they finaly push him out the door his hallmates are out in the hall while his friends convince him that they need to go back and reclaim the sword. In order to get there they need to run from the Valkeries while the hallmates protect them. Here I had to rethink about his friends.
  • Event five: The World Squirrel

    Event five: The World Squirrel
Now in order to get places they need to go they need to climb the World Tree, home to the World Squirrel. the World Squirrel protects the tree, so it tries to kill Magnis and his friends but to get away Hearth and Sam stay hidden in a magical cloack where Magnis and blitz jump in a portal. This portal leads to another afterlife home. I think it was a close call, and now they are split up and that isn't good when the nine worlds are doomed to end in just a few more days.
  • Event seven: Recognizing the sword

    Event seven: Recognizing the sword
They ended up in a place that Blitz's mom owned, folkvang another place people go for afterlife. After letting them know where to go next Freya (Blitz's mom) lets Magnus know that his sword is special and it has a soul also so he should treat it like it has one. That is when the Sword of Summer and Magnis started connecting giving both of them strength. Here I thought the same as Magnus, that would be" ha, swords and objects dont have souls,"but we were proved wrong.
  • Event eight: Okay just a contest

Event eight: Okay just a contest
While in Blitz's homeland underground, they had to get a new rope that would never break and what better way to get that while you are putting your best friend Blitz's life on the line. A tournament of crafting that Blitz ends up making cloths in against the best crafter ever who got sabatoged by Sam -oh, and Sam and Hearth were back. At this point I was relieved that Sam and Hearth were safe and they got a rope that can be used to tie up Fenrir.
  • Event nine: Swords up giant's noses

Event nine: Swords up giant's noses
After the crafting competition the crew was back together but they had more on thier plate, Thor was in need of help so Magnus and his friends just killed one of the biggest giants in the nine worlds capable of killing Thor. So to get the location of Fenrir's island they had to go on a quest from Thor, they accomplished it, killed three more giants. While killing the giants, Magnus almost died of exhaustion. I was somewhat disapointed in this because I just wanted to see something more happen.
  • Event ten: Facing the wolf Fenrir

Event ten: Facing the wolf Fenrir
At last they can seal Fenir's weaking bonds, if he gets free it will be the end of the nine worlds. Although the Sword of Summer is the only thing that can cut the current binding, He uses it to chain Fenrir up. To use the Sword of summer he tied the never breaking rope to the end of the magical sword to bind Fenrir. Durring all of this the Valkeries and Magnus's hall mates came to help and fought off surt's army. I feel this was a great ending because it solved problems but kept me on the edge.
  • What I think about the book

What I think about the book
Personaly I loved the book because I like books that have something to do with mythology and magic while having a good story. I think it had funny and serious times while keeping it light hearted. I do think it will be a movie since disney had this as a book trailer, and I will watch it. In addition, I will read all the other books in this series because Rick Riordan said this will be a series. That concludes Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard The Sword of Summer.
