Inventions of the Industrial Revolution

  • (Watt) Steam Engine

    (Watt) Steam Engine
    There were multiple who helped invent the steam engine, but the main person who led the invention was Thomas Savery in 1698. They invented this to help with the mining. He made this engine that could effectively draw water from flooded mines using steam pressure. The flooding of mines happened a lot so this would help with it, and take this problem off their plates.
  • The Spinning Jenny

    The Spinning Jenny
    James Hargreaves invented the Spinning Jenny to make it spin cotton for people in 1770. The machine had 8 spindles and that was where the string would be spun onto. By turning a single wheel, they could now spin 8 strings at the same time.
  • Power Loom

    The first Power Loom was invented in 1787 by Edmund Cartwright. They made it better in the future to make it completely automatic. It was designed to weave different things together.

    It was a machine made for cleaning cotton of its seeds, and it was invented in the United States by Eli Whitney in 1793.

    In 1804 the English Engineer Richard Trevithick built the first locomotive for transporting heavy loads at an ironwork. This was providing a railway service for passengers.

    The first ever successful Steamboat was invented by Robert Fulton in 1807. They had systems and eventually went to France to work on more canals and signals for this Steamboat. France is where he met his inventor buddy, Robert Livingston.

    The first photograph was invented by Joseph Nicephore Neipce in 1826. He was capturing different things happening, and decided to use a technique called heliography. The photograph was taken from an upstairs window.

    The first good sewing machine was used to sew clothes and things that they really needed to sew. It was invented by Barthelemy Thimonni, a French trailor in 1829

    Samuel Morse invented the telegraph. It was invented in the 1830’s. It was invented for long distance communication, and so you could communicate with people that lived farther away from you. It worked by giving electrical signals over a wire laid between different stations.

    Alfred Noble is best known for his invention of dynamite in 1867. This was a very good invention for many people on many different levels. And he also made a device called the “blasting cup” that would go with high explosives with the dynamite.

    They invented the telephone in 1876 and 1877. They say it isn’t to determine who invented it. Because there were 2 people who invented it. But the main one who invented the telephone was Alexander Graham Bell.

    Karl Benz invented the three - wheel motorized vehicle. Which was known as the “motorwagen” in 1886. He also made this automobile have its own throttle system, spark plugs, gear shifters, water radiator, a carburetor, and other cool things to this automobile.
