The first pair of baseball cleats were invented in 1840 by a man name Paul Butler. Paul was a ball player as well, but he wanted an edge, so he made the cleats. He made cleats by strapping spikes to soft leather shoes, to attemp to achieve this edge, and what he discovered changed sports, and baseball forever. Cleats since have changed however. Instead of there being one pair of cleats for all fields, there are now many different ones; each to meet a different specification of field. -
