    Sputnik was the first ever satellite launched into space and Sputnik was launched by the Soviet Union. It was launched on October 4th 1957 when Dwight D. Eisenhower was in office. They wanted to be bigger and better and JFK vowed to have a man on the moon before the Soviets. The United States did so, but many people wonder if it was a hoax because the Soviet Union was becoming too advanced, so the United States needed to show that it was also progressing.

    What does ARPA stand for? The answer is Advanced Research Projects Agency. Why was ARPA created? The creation of ARPA was authorised by President Eisenhower in 1958 for the purpose of forming and executing research and development projects to expand the frontiers of technology and science, and able to reach far beyond immediate military requirements.

The packet switching of the ARPANET was based on designs by British scientist Donald Davies and Lawrence Rob. The first ARPANET only had 4 imp connections.
