    League of Nations: Failure to settle teschen issue
    In January 1919, Polish and Czech troops for Teschen, and many were killed and injured. The League was called on to help and decided that most of the town should go to Poland while Czechoslovakia should have one of Teschen’s suburbs. This suburb contained the most valuable coalmines and the Poles refused to accept this decision. Though no more wholesale violence took place, the two countries continued to argue over the issue for the next twenty years.

    In 1920, Poland invaded land held by the Russians. By 1921, the Polish had gained 80,000 square kilometers of the Russian land. Many had said that the League of Nations were “selecting which countries were acceptable” and which ones were not. And therefore did not assist Russia in this situation.

    In 1923, a 5 Italians from the survey team were shot while in Albania. As they had conflict in the past, Italy accused Albania of planning the incident, and demanded a large fine. Greece had gone to the League of Nations for help, but Mussolini had persuaded them, and Greece had ended up paying.

    Success in making peace between Greece and Bulgaria
    Both Greece and Bulgaria have a common border. In 1925, sentries patrolling this border fired on one another and a Greek soldier were killed. The Greek army invaded Bulgaria as a result. The Bulgarians asked the League for help and the League ordered both armies to stop fighting and that the Greeks should pull out of Bulgaria.     On 1945, October 24th, the United Nations was officially formed. The United Nation was created in order to obtain peace within nations. This day acts as a success for them, because this day is now celebrated as “United Nations day”

    During the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, the U.N. was used as a podium by the United States to challenge the Soviet Union’s placement of nuclear missiles in Cuba. The embarrassment of public indictment was instrumental in forcing the Soviets to remove the missiles. U.N. military forces (provided by member states) have conducted over 35 peacekeeping missions providing security and reducing armed conflict.

    Between 1986 and 1993, 15% of World Bank loans were for projects (such as dams), which forcibly displaced 2 million people. This was seen as a failure, as 2 million people were affected negatively. Also, the 15% of World Bank loans for the projects were not seen as effective by society.

    In 1986, in Eastern Europe, the IMF imposed a SAP in Yugoslavia, which devalued the dinar. The resultant inflation is considered a contributing factor to the already tense environment of ethnic tension and nationalism, which has led to the current conflict throughout the region. The result has been widespread unemployment, and in the case of Poland going from 0% in 1990 to 15% in 1993. Therefore this is seen as a failure on the IMF’s part.

    In 1995, U.N. peacekeepers in the area failed to intervene during killings in Srebrenica, Bosnia-Herzegovina despite the fact that the U.N. designated it a “Safe Haven” for refugees. The Bosnian Serb army massacred accounts report over 8,000 Muslim Bosniaks.

    The Doha Round in November 2001 was a success for the WTO. Their aim was to obtain massive reform of the international trading system through the introduction of lower trade barriers and revised trade regulations, and successfully, they were able to reach those goals.
