Mark Bingham (San Francisco Fog player) was a passenger on the United Airlines Flight 93 which was subject to terroist attacks in the U.S. The United Airlines Flight 93 crashed killing all passengers on board, including Mark Bingham. Mark Bingham has been identified as being one of the men to try and take down the terroists on this flight.

The first Bingham Memorial Cup, in honour of Mark Bingham was hosted in San Francisco, U.S. The Tournament consisted of eight teams: GOTHAM KNIGHTS, KINGS CROSS STEELERS, LA REBELLION, MANCHESTER VILLAGE SPARTANS, SAN FRANCISO FOG (two teams), SEATTLE QUAKE AND WASHINGTON RENEGADES.

The first Purchas Cup Tournament was held in Sydney, and a second in Brisbane. This cup was named after the founder of the Sydney Convicts (2003), Andrew Purchas.

New York and the Gotham Knights RFC hosted the Third Bingham Memorial Cup, The Tournament was fivided into 3 divisions depending on ability. In 2006, over 800 participants in 29 teams of 9 countries competed in this tournament.

The fourth Bingham Cup was located in Dublin, Ireland hosted by the Emerald Warriors. This tournament was host to 32 teams competing, with the Sydney Convicts winning the tournament.

Sydney Convicts host the Bingham Cup. This is the first time the Bingham Cup has come to Australia / Southern Hemisphere. This is also the first time that Brisbane and Sydney played in the Grand Final for the Cup. Melbourne Chargers won the Bingham Plate and the Sydney Convicts won the Bingham Cup.
