    European Explorers bring slaves to the Americas
    1528 the European Explorers sailed to the Americas with slaves on their ships. Many of the slaves were picked up from Africa and brought to the 'New World', the Americas. These slaves were put on ships and sailed over the Atlantic ocean. Many of these slaves carried diseases which caused problems later on while ariving in the Americas.

    Britian were the first huge slave-trading nation that abolished the the trade. Before slavery ended in 10% of the people who lived in Britian were slaves in England. They decided to end slavery because of moral reasons.

    The Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves takes place in the United States. This law stated that no new slaves could be imported into the United States. This stoped the slave trade in the United States and also inspired other countries to stop slave trade in their county.

  • The murder of Emmett Til

    The murder of Emmett Til
    Emmett Til was a younge 14 year-old African-American boy who was murdered in Mississippi after flirting with a white woman. This encounter was going around the community he lived in and people thought didn't like it. 4 days later in the early morning hours 4 men went to Emmett's house and abducted him. Throughout the night he was driven to several locations. They beat, shot and drowned him to make sure that he died a terrible death. The muder motivated the African-American Civil Rights Movement.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader of the African-American clivil rights movement. Since he made tried to make advancements in the civil right in the United States, many people were against him and he recieved many death threats. But on April 4th 1968 someone shot shot him while he was staying on a local motel. They rushed him to the hospital but he died nothing could save him. After his assassination people all over the United States rioted which was not the response King would ever wish for.

    The last country in the world to ban slavery
    In 2007 Mauritius, small island just 2,000 kilometers off of the South-East coast of Africa was the last country in the world to ban slavery. The first to discover this small island were the Portugese. The Portugese and a few other European countries setteled in to the island and traded many slaves. For so many years in Mauritius it has been legal to trade slaves but finally now they abolish the trade.
