    The first African Slaves are brought to America
    The first Slaves came to America to a place called Jamestown in Virginia in the year 1619. We are unsure whether they were captured off a slave ship or transported Directly because they were already part of a transatlantic slave system. Other africans sold slaves to the Europeans and they brought them over and traded them like cattle. They wanted slaves to care for their farms and plantations.

    Eli Whitney invents the cotton gin which increases profit for the cotton industry because they can make more cotton faster, thus they became more dependent on Slavery in the south because there were so many units.

  • Amistad Mutiny

    around this time, 53 Africans were kidnapped and sold to spanish traders. One of the captives had the Guts to break free of his cuffs and release the other Africans. The Slaves revolted and killed most of the Amistad crew. This event was important because it was one of the biggest revoults that happened in that time of slavery and inspired the blacks to do the same in America.

  • Fugitive Slave Act of 1850

    This law was passed so that all slaves that escaped were to be immediately returned to their masters, maximizing all of the slaves available so their owners would not need to worry about losing them and buying new ones, etc.

    On the first of January in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln passed a law that claimed all slaves in confedarate territory would be forever free. Quote: 'The Proclamation could not be enforced in areas still under rebellion, but as the army took control of Confederate regions, the slaves in those regions were emancipated rather than returned to their masters.'

  • Jim crow laws

    After the Civil war, there was a large legislation in the south that was very anti-african american. The main Idea of the Jim Crow laws was to keep things "seperate, but equal" amongst Black and White people. These laws were designed in such a way that black people in the old south would not be able to vote. These laws were designed to force segregation.

  • Brown vs Board event

    In 1954 a famous 3 day court trial was held, to battle for the rights of American children of African Descent in Public schools. Segregation was the norm, and these colored children had it much worse than the white children. When this bill was passed, all children from all races had equal rights in school. This kicked off the beginning of the civil rights movement.

  • The Murder of Emmet Till

    This 14 year old boy was Murdured on the 28th of August 1955, by Roy Bryant and his half-brother, J. W. Milam. They beat him brutally for hours, and then shot him in the head. There is no truely confirmed reason for why they commited such a cruel act, but their excuse was that Emmet whistled at their mother. This Murder started a big uprise in the African American Community and prompted them to really begin fighting for their rights.

    The freedom riders was a group of African Americans that were fed up with segregation and inequality, so they began a journey to the south to try and test the court of law to repeal segregation, in a non-violent way. This was one of the most documented and important events in civil rights history.

    Assanation of Martin Luther King Jr.
    Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was the most important person in the Civil rights movement in America. He lead countless speeches, and rallies, with the goal of getting equality for all races peacefully, and without violence. He helped put an end to segragation in the U.S. Unfortuanetly on April 4th 1968, he was shot in Memphis Tenessee on the balcony of a hotel right next to his room.
