British Expansion in North America and the Caribbean between 1584 and 1776 is known as the First British Empire Through the 17th century, the british empire continued to expand through trading activitiesof private commercial companies, such as the East India Trading Company and the Hudson Bay Company.

    Stolen Generations

    Policies forcibly removing Indigenous people children from their fammilies were in effect. It is estimated that 100, 000 children were taken from their home for the purpose of culturally assimilating or "breeding out" Indigenous people.

    Indigenous people were recognised to be human beings. This allowed Indigenous people to vote and allowed for the commonwealth government to make legislation for Indigenous people (not just states).
