The Smiths make their debut on British TV Program 'Top of the Pops' where Morrisey (Lead Singer) appeared with flowers instead of a microphone, wearing 'normal' clothes. Everything was stripped back to basics without any fancy stage costumes earlier bands wore. -

The Jesus and Mary Chain
I riot broke out at Jesus and Mary Chain's gig in the North London Poly. It was said that this riot broke out due to the band only playing a 3 or 4 song setlist. -
Stone Roses Debut Album Released
It is at this time Stone Roses released their debut album 'The Stone Roses' which turned out to b a great success, because of this success, they signed up to a major record label but their current label they were signed to 'Silvertone' would not let them out of their contract which led the band into a legal battle. -
Knebworth
It was here in 1996 Oasis decided to host one of the largest events in music history. Supported by bands like Prodigy, Ocean Colour Scene, Manic Street Preachers, The Bootleg Beatles and The Chemical Brothers. Oasis played to a crowed of over 150,000 people for the two nights this even was held. Over 2.6 million people applied for tickets making it the largest ever demand for concert tickets in British History.
