    gandhi fasts until all violence is stopped. Violence is stopped. When he stops fasting he gets arrested for sedition.

    Congress party endorsed civil disobedience. The deliberate and public refusal to obey an unjust law, and non violence as a means to get independence.

    The Salt March. Gandhi organizes demonstration to defy Salt Acts. They had to pay sales tax on salt and could only buy it from the government. Gandhi and his followers walked about 240 miles to the seacoast to make salt.

    British parliament passes Government of India Act. It provided local self-government and limited democratic elections, but not total independence.
