    In March 1947 Viceroy, Louis Mountbatten arrived in India with a United India as his purpose, but with to no avail.
    It was first nn 3 June 1947 Mountbatten, Jinnah and Nehru announced their compromise - a divided India.

    On 9 August 1947 Radcliffe submitted his map of the new border. The border was based on religious majorities in specific areas.
