    The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act was a legislation passed by parliament in India in 1986 with the purpose of protecting the rights of Muslim women who had divorced or have been divorced from, their husbands and provide for matters concerned with or incidental to the marriage. The reality of the case denied even utterly destitute Muslim divorcées the right to alimony from their former husbands.

    Rape of Bilkis Yakoob Rasool
    On the third of march, 2002, Bilkis Yakoob Rasool was brutaly gang-raped, and to add to the atrocity, 14 members of her family, including her 3 and half year old daughter were murdered. Several female members of her family also raped and murdered. Bilkis was the only remaining survivor of the horrific incident.

As of November 2007, it has been officially approved by four of twenty-eight state governments in India; namely Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.

During the October, a Delhi woman filed a complaint against a man accusing him of drugging her, abducting her and raping her.

    The 2012 Delhi gang rape case was a case involving a rape and fatal assault of a 23-year-old female physiotherapy intern in a neighbourhood in South Delhi. The victim was extremely beaten and gang raped in a private bus when she was travelling with a male friend. The six others on the bus, including the driver, had committed the atrocious act of raping the woman and beating her friend. The woman eventually died from the injuries sustained thirteen days later during treatment in Singapore.

On February 14, 2013, a one-day event was held, to gather one billion women around the world to join together in dance for a show of collective strength.

  • Two India girls gang-raped and hanged in Uttar Pradesh

    Two India girls gang-raped and hanged in Uttar Pradesh
    Two Indian girls found hanging from a tree in a village in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh had been allegedly gang raped. One man has been held responsible over the murders and three policemen were dismissed from duty for failure to register cases when the victims were reported missing. The girls were found in Badaun district and thought to be 15 – 18 years of age and from the Dalit community.
